First action – Searching for happiness

Happiness and „buen vivir“ – the good life – what is it? Friends, family, and a safe job? Freedom of expression, possession or living in harmony with nature? To share your life with others or in the sense of community?

In our one-week seminar at Haus Sonnenberg, we will try to find out how we can experience happiness both as individuals and as a global society with the aim of peaceful coexistence. We will focus on the topics of consumption, participation, freedom of expression and equality and ask to what extent happiness can or should be a goal of political action. „Everyone is a blacksmith of their own luck“ – and in this way, relationships between happiness and political responsibility can also be established on the aspect of flight and migration, as the World Happiness Report 2018 already shows.

Furthermore, we will explore the Harz National Park as an example of the role of nature as a potential endorphin supplier and deceleration factor that needs to be protected due to these functions and many others. We will also research what the media representation of the selected happiness factors is and provide a definition using an explanatory video.

At the end of the seminar, the question will be explored to what extent digital life can make people really or seemingly happy.

At the same time, there will certainly be moments of happiness beyond the content of the seminar if we spend our free time together, get to know each other, and intensively exchange experiences with young people from three different countries.
