How well do we know our neighbours, in which societies do we live in? As well as with regard to the European map? This seminar will first examine the term „society“ and questions the „I“ and „WE“ in it. What makes the difference to feel part of society in the Czech Republic or Germany? Which social issues unite or separate the respective population of a state? Are there similarities and / or differences? And how can this be result to a common denominator of a European sense of community?
In our week long seminar in the International House Sonnenberg, we will try to find answers to these questions. We are also concern with the polarizing effect of populist language use in media discourse and, in contrast, with ways to strengthen or restore cohesion between people. The focus here is on the topic of volunteering and the willingness to offer various population groups voluntary and free assistance or to support them in other ways.
Furthermore, we will explore the Samson Mine as an example and the setting for a formerly important site of a former Harz company and its foothills to this day. Finally, there will be a space for creative implementation of visions of future community forms and support.
Apart from the seminar content, there will be time for the young people to spend their free time together and to get to know each other across nations.
